I had such grand plans for this cabinet when we first bought it. Ones that included filling it with my grandparents' antique Canton china as well as some special silver pieces. You know, the family heirlooms that you pass between generations.
My family had other ideas. No sooner had the delivery men brought it in, then Eric and the kids had it filled with their own kind of family treasures.
Treasures like homemade Star Wars action figures and pies made from modeling clay or racing cards finely detailed and displayed on hand-carved pedestals. And the shells and stones collected from many beach walks shown in the first picture.
Everyone has their own version of a family heirloom, it's true. And our gang is so proud we keep their work in an actual display case. Since they create new pieces weekly, I've pretty much resigned myself towards keeping the Canton in the dining room. And it's okay.
